Liverpool Cathedral`s
The City of Liverpool is fortunate enough to possess two mighty symbols of the Christian faith in the Two Cathedrals which face each other at opposite ends of the aptly-named Hope Street. Both Cathedrals are built with their own identities and both offer breathtaking views on The Liverpool Waterfront. Any City would be proud to have either present in their homeland. The views from the River Mersey show just how many fantastic architectural buildings Liverpool has to offer.

THE LIVERPOOL ANGLICAN CATHEDRAL
The Cathedral Church of Christ, Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s masterpiece, is built on St. James’
Mount and is visible from miles around: “a visible witness for God in the midst of the great city”. The Cathedral was planned in 1901 and was designed by an unknown 22 year old after a competition, and the first stone was laid in 104 in front of 7,000 visitors by no other than King Edward VII.
Crippling inflation made the completion of the building a difficult task but in October 1978 Queen Elizabeth II attended the serv
ice to mark the completion of the largest Cathedral in Britain.
The cathedral has the highest and heaviest peal of church bells in the world. (67m/219feet) (31.5 tonnes/31tons) There are two pipe organs in Liverpool Cathedral. The Grand Organ is the largest in the UK and probably the largest operational organ in the world. It Has 10,268 pipes.
Both Cathedrals are open to visitors and all visitor information is available at any Tourist Information Centre.
