Manchester Airport

History of Manchester Airport

Manchester Airport is considered the main airport for passengers visiting the north west because of the amount of flights landing and taking off from the run ways. Like many airports, life began back in the nineteen thirties. The original name of the airport was named after a local parish and was called `Ringfield Aerodrome`.A few years later the first International flight departed from Ringfield to Amsterdam but the second world war put the civilian use on hold for many years.

The airport was then mainly used as a training and maintainence centre and was primely used for paratroopers perfecting landing techniques for the war effort. After the war the civilian usage was attractive as a more northern point for travellers not having to travel down south for flights.Manchester City council yook over the uprising of the airport and the many flights arriving and departing every day.

The fifties saw the name ` Manchester International Airport `and 3 terminals. The growth attracted more and more businesses and the local economy became heavily reliant on the airport with the many jobs created. Liverpool John Lennon Airport and Birmingham International are the closest rivals to Manchester and work closely today offering landing space for diverts.

Manchester International Airport still remains very strong today and with the journey just 45 minutes from Liverpool, both Airports are transporting the north west safely throughout europe and beyond.

Taxi ranks mark the front of the terminals and buses are frequent and event thge trains are arriving and departing from the airport.
